The Woodward 8200-1300 is a state-of-the-art digital governor from the 505D series, specifically engineered for the precise control and protection of industrial steam turbines. 

This unit serves as both a controller and a graphical Operator Control Panel (OCP), offering a seamless interface for managing single or dual split-range actuator turbines.

 Operating on Low Voltage DC (LVDC), it is a standard for reliability in non-hazardous industrial locations.

Unique Product Description

The Woodward 8200-1300 is often called the "Smart Brain" of steam turbine operations. Unlike basic governors that simply manage RPM, the 8200-1300 acts as a comprehensive management suite. 

It utilizes a unique dual-processor architecture to ensure that even if one routine encounters a delay, the critical speed-sensing and safety trip logic remain uncompromised.

 It is a "drop-in" upgrade for legacy 505 systems (specifically 9907-164), bringing modern graphical diagnostics to classic turbine hardware.

Application Cases

Power Generation: Precise frequency control for grid-synchronized generators using "droop" or "isochronous" modes.

Petrochemical Plants: Managing steam-driven compressors and pumps where process stability is critical.

Pulp and Paper: Controlling turbine inlet and extraction pressures to balance plant steam headers.

Marine Propulsion: High-vibration environments where speed-critical response and marine certifications (IACS UR E10) are required.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation

Mounting: Designed for front-panel mounting in a control cabinet. Ensure the IP54 gasket is properly seated.

Wiring: Use stranded copper field-wiring rated for at least 75°C. For speed inputs, use shielded twisted-pair cables to prevent EMI.

Power: Connect to a stable 24V DC source; the 8200-1300 is sensitive to voltage drops during turbine startup.

Maintenance

Data Logging: Use the "Control Assistant" tool to regularly download and review event recorders and trend data.

Diagnostic LEDs: Monitor the four primary LEDs (CPU Health, IO Lock, Alarm, Trip) for immediate health status.

Filter Cleaning: Ensure the cabinet cooling fans are functional to maintain the module’s operating temperature within the -30°C to 70°C range.
