Product Overview: Meggitt Vibro-Meter MPC4G2

The Vibro-Meter MPC4G2 (also referred to within the VM600Mk2 / VM600 machinery protection ecosystem) is a core vibration and machinery protection card designed by Meggitt (Sensing Systems).

Installed in the VM600 rack, it serves critical machinery protection applications for heavy rotating equipment, including gas and steam turbines, compressors, large pumps, and industrial fans.

The card processes input signals from proximity probes, accelerometers, velocity sensors, and dynamic pressure transducers.

It performs real-time digital signal processing (DSP) to calculate vibration values (amplitude, displacement, velocity) and speed parameters, executing fast hardware relay trips to protect equipment against catastrophic failure.

Operating Instructions

Hardware Alignment & Insertion

Ensure rack power is verified prior to insertion

Inspect the rear edge connector of the MPC4G2 module for debris. Slide the module into the designated slot of the VM600 rack along the guide rails until fully seated in the backplane. Tighten the top and bottom front panel thumb screws.

Rear Panel Interface Wiring (IOC4 Module)

Connect raw transducer and relay wiring

Connect raw sensor cables (proximity probes, accelerometers, or velocity sensors) to the associated IOC4 input/output card at the rear of the rack. Verify correct shielding and grounding connections to prevent ground loops.

Software Configuration via VibroSight

Set signal processing parameters

Open the VibroSight Configurator software on the host PC connected to the CPUM rack controller. Assign channel input types, engineering units, filter cut-offs, tracking ratios, and relay logic thresholds (Alert and Danger trip limits).

Loop Check & Calibration Verification

Validate trip logic prior to machine start

Inject simulated signals (using a signal generator) to verify channel readouts, 4–20 mA output response, and real-time relay trip actions before releasing the machinery protection system for live operation.

Fault Diagnosis
