1. Product overview
ControlWave Micro is a miniature remote terminal unit (RTU) developed by Bristol Babcock Company. It is equipped with a high-performance CPU module (model 396563-07-4), supports BSAP (Bristol standard access protocol) communication protocol, and is suitable for industrial automation control and data acquisition scenarios.
Core features:
The working current is 240mA (typical), and it supports wide voltage input of 10-30V DC.
Integrated serial (RS232/RS485) and Ethernet (UDP) dual communication interfaces.
Compatible with Crimson v3.0+ configuration software, supporting master/slave mode driving.
2. Hardware configuration
2.1 communication interface settings
Serial port configuration
Parameter matching:
Select the corresponding serial port in Crimson software and load Bristol Babcock BSAP serial master/slave driver.
Baud rate, data bit, stop bit and check bit should be consistent with the settings in the Flash Configuration tool of ControlWave Micro (refer to page 2 of document 1).
Equipment identification number:
It needs to be consistent with the Device ID defined in the Flash Configuration tool.
Ethernet port configuration
IP parameter settings:
Configure the IPv4 address through the IP Parameters tab of the Flash Configuration Utility (it must conform to the network planning).
Select BSAP UDP Master/Slave driver in Crimson, and match IP address with UDP port number (page 3 of document 1).
Multi-device support:
Realizing multi-device communication through different UDP ports
2.2 Cable connection specification
Serial cable:
Red Lion port ControlWave Micro port function
Pin2 (rx) pin2 (rxd) receives data.
Pin5 (tx) pin3 (txd) sends data.
Pin3 (comm) pin5 (gnd) signal ground
Note: jumper wires need to be installed between Pin 1-4 and Pin 7-8 of ControlWave Micro (page 13 of document 1).
Ethernet cable: standard CAT5e/CAT6 is directly connected or interconnected through a switch.
3. Software configuration and data access
3.1 Variable management
Manually create variables
Click the Manage button in Crimson and select the data type (bit/byte/word/dword/real/string).
Naming rules:
Global variable: prefix @GV. (such as @GV.TEMP1)
Non-global variable: prefix p < program instance name >. (such as P2.FLOW_RATE)
Name length limit: ≤25 characters (page 6 of document 1)
Bulk import/export variables
Edit NAME (column A) and TYPE (column C) in Excel after exporting to CSV file.
Optimization suggestions:
Sort by data type (page 8 of document 1)
The index column (column B) must be continuous and unique, with a starting value of 1.
3.2 Communication debugging
Frequently asked questions:
Verify the correctness of communication parameters and wiring
Use Crimson's Rebuild Comms Blocks tool (path: File > Utility).
Check the legality of variable types and indexes in CSV files (page 12 of document 1)
4. Safety and maintenance
4.1 Electrical Safety
The metal shell must be grounded and conform to the OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910 standard (page 3 of document 2).
Anti-static measures: Wear an anti-static bracelet when operating.
4.2 Warranty and Technical Support
Warranty terms:
One-year warranty from the delivery date (no man-made damage or misoperation)
Disclaimer: Unauthorized modification or nonstandard installation will invalidate the warranty.
