Important Note In order to ensure the quick installation and start-up of the devices described in this manual, we strongly recommend that you carefully read and observe the following information and instructions.
Symbols usually follow this information to protect people from harm. Warning Please always observe this information to prevent damage to the equipment. Pay attention to the edge conditions that must always be observed to ensure smooth operation. ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) Warning Damage to components by electrostatic discharge. Observe the preventive measures for handling parts with electrostatic discharge hazards. Pay attention to the effective use of equipment and software optimization routines or suggestions. For other information, refer to other documents, manuals, data sheets and web pages.
Safety information Attention: Shut down the system before operating the bus module! If the contact is deformed, the faulty module needs to be replaced, because its function cannot be guaranteed for a long time. These components cannot resist materials with permeability and insulation properties. Materials belonging to this group include: aerosol, silicone and triglyceride (found in some hand creams). If these materials cannot be excluded from the assembly environment, additional measures need to be taken:
-Install the component into a suitable housing.
-Use only clean tools and materials to handle parts. Pay attention to cleaning contaminated contacts only with alcohol and leather cloth. Therefore, ESD information will be regarded as. Do not use contact spray, which may damage the function of the contact area. WAGO-I/O- system 750 and its components are an open system. It can only be assembled in the shell, cabinet or electric operation room. Only authorized qualified personnel can enter through keys or tools. Effective and applicable standards and guidelines related to the installation of distribution boxes shall be observed. ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) modules are equipped with electronic components that may be damaged by electrostatic discharge. When handling modules, ensure that the environment (personnel, workplace and packaging) is well grounded. Avoid touching conductive parts such as gold contacts.
Scope This document describes the software update or reconfiguration of WAGO-I/O-IPC 758-870/xxx. The installation is basically performed by using a CF card that can customize the boot, and it provides all the required data. Each individual component will be introduced and briefly described in the relevant sections. In addition, it will also show the creation of a small operating system and its transfer to WAGO-I/O-IPC. With this system, the target system will be able to start itself. You can also use an existing network connection to perform the update. In this case, the required files will be copied to the device for updating.
The electrical start-up and other details of WAGO I/O-IPC 758-870/xxx are not part of this document and will be described in the corresponding manual. Therefore, this document is only valid for relevant manuals.
Components and tools needed for updating through CF card In addition to the hardware of WAGO-I/O-IPC 758-870/xxx to be updated, the following components are also needed for updating IPC software: In the whole solution, each component (including its component functions) will be briefly described in the following chapters.
The CF card supporting booting is used as the storage medium for updating the software on WAGOI/O-IPC. The BIOS of IPC is preset in such a way that the external flash memory (CF card) will precede the internal flash memory during the startup process. In fact, this means that as long as it is inserted in the appropriate slot, the boot always starts with the cf card with boot capability. Therefore, there is no need to set the BIOS of WAGO-I/O-IPC for the software update through CF card described in this paper. The following types of CF cards should be used: 758-879 cards provided by WAGO. When using CF cards from other manufacturers, trouble-free operation cannot be guaranteed, especially in guiding behavior, which is a problem. Note that not all Kingston CF cards are recommended. In some cases, they may cause problems when starting and identifying cards.
Card reader In terms of hardware, the bootable CF card is created from a windows-based system using a CF card reader, and the CF card is installed in the reader. Both internal devices and external modules connected via USB (1.1 or 2.0) are suitable for this purpose.
1. Bootable compact flash card with 256 megabytes of memory (recommended type: WAGO CF card 758-8792. Card reader for CF card 3. USB keyboard for operating IPC4. DVI monitor or DVI -> VGA adapter for connecting VGA monitor 5. Update tools under Windows PC
Components and tools needed for updating through CF card In addition to the hardware of WAGO-I/O-IPC 758-870/xxx to be updated, the following components are also needed for updating IPC software: In the whole solution, each component (including its component functions) will be briefly described in the following chapters.
