SAMSUNG SMBK-08 IOU Rack Backplane
SAMSUNG SMBK-08 IOU Rack Backplane
The SAMSUNG SMBK-08 is an 8-slot I/O and CPU unit (IOU) rack backplane engineered for Samsung SPC and SM-series industrial programmable logic controller (PLC) systems.
It acts as the structural and electrical backbone of the automation rack, housing a dedicated power supply slot, a central processing unit slot, and 8 expansion slots for high-density I/O, communication, and special-purpose modules.
Built with a high-durability printed circuit board and integrated data bus traces, the SMBK-08 ensures zero-latency parallel communication, robust signal integrity, and high-speed data transmission across the entire controller ecosystem.
Product Advantages and Features
Optimized 8-Slot Expansion Capacity: Provides 1 power supply slot, 1 CPU slot, and 8 dedicated I/O/communication slots, delivering a compact yet scalable system architecture.
High-Speed Bus Backplane: Precision-engineered printed circuit traces ensure minimal signal attenuation and high-speed data exchange between the CPU and all connected expansion cards.
Rigorous Mechanical Durability: Constructed with a rigid aluminum-reinforced chassis that absorbs industrial vibration and mechanical shock without warping backplane connectors.
Error-Free Keyed Slots: Custom-keyed edge connectors prevent incorrect module insertion, protecting sensitive circuit boards against short circuits and reverse-mounting damage.
Centralized Grounding Architecture: Integrated dedicated grounding planes suppress electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) across all installed modules.
Application Cases
Discrete Manufacturing & Assembly Lines: Centralizes multi-axis motion control, sensor monitoring, and pneumatic actuator management in automotive and electronics assembly.
Process Automation & Continuous Control: Integrates high-density analog, digital, and temperature modules for chemical mixing tanks, water treatment facilities, and food processing plants.
Heavy Machinery & Material Handling: Serves as the primary controller rack for automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), large conveyors, and heavy industrial cranes.
Energy & Power Distribution: Coordinates switchgear monitoring and auxiliary power telemetry in electrical substations and renewable energy installations.

Installation and Maintenance
Installation Guidelines:
Mount the SMBK-08 securely to the back panel of the control enclosure using four M4 mounting screws through the chassis grounding holes.
Ensure a minimum clearance of 50 mm above and below the rack to allow adequate natural convection cooling.
Connect a heavy-gauge copper braid wire (minimum 2.0 mm²) from the rack's designated FG (Frame Ground) terminal directly to the enclosure main ground bar.
Maintenance & Inspection:
Connector Care: Inspect edge connectors periodically for oxidation or dust accumulation; clean gently with isopropyl alcohol and an anti-static brush if necessary.
Screw Tightness: Verify the mechanical tightness of all rack-mounting and module-retaining screws annually to withstand continuous plant vibration.
